Meet Our Officers for 2007

President, Robert Brady

Hello, my name is Robert D. Brady, Jr. I’ve been a member of MSKC since its founding 25 years ago and have been an active skier since 1976 – ‘way’ back when encountering another person of color on the slopes was “cause for celebration and a lot of mid-mountain conversation”. My “day job” is with Sanofi-Aventis Pharma where I’ve worked for 28+ years in pharmaceutical manufacturing and, most recently, distribution services. In addition to skiing, my other hobbies include, golf (it’s an ad-diction), chess and I like to read when I have time. I’ve also been actively involved with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Herman Johnson African-American Scholarship fund for several years and the Sumner High School Alumni Association. As the recently elected president of MSKC, I’m fortunate to be able to work with a great group of people who’re focus on developing a slate of activities that will appeal to both the skier and non-skier. Please contact me or one of the other officers for additional information and/or a schedule of activities. If you have any questions, commits or concerns please send me an email at:

Vice President, Serese Cannon

Accepting the position as Vice President of Midwest Ski KC (MSKC) is a honor. Taking my position seriously, I will step up to the plate when needed. As Vice President I am ready to support our President in MSKC and serve in his place when necessary. I will attend meetings and provide leadership to the club as directed by our President. I enjoy skiing, travel and socializing, so the MSKC is a very good fit for me.

Secretary, Joyce Peeples

Just to tell you a little bit about me, I am a Social Worker for Swope Parkway Health Center, I've been with Swope for 11 years, I worked for American Telephone & Telegraph for 20 years. I have been associated with several organization that involve our children, mentoring them and doing whatever I can do to make them a successful person in society. I have been a member of several boards in Kansas City. I am presently a board member with Benjamin Bannker Charter School of Technology. I was a Big Sister for over 20 years in the Big Brother Big Sister organization. I have received various acknowledgements for my service in the community. I have been a member of Midwest Ski KC for over 25 years. My first Ski Summit was in 1985 in Park City, Utah. The summit was a highlight of my life. I cannot begin to tell you the joy I experience. I am so happy that our ski club is getting back together. Accepting the position as the secretary will give me the opportunity to share my expertise with the club. I love traveling and meeting new people. Being a part of the ski club continues to bring back many wonderful memories. Remember: What happens on the slopes stays on the slopes. Treasurer, Kirk Thaw

Kirk Thaw, Jr. was one of the founding members of Midwest Ski Kansas City. At that time the club was commonly referred to as "Black Ski KC". Kirk has served as Treasurer and Trip Leader several times. His first ski trip was to Vail, CO. As a never-ever skier, he wore all the wrong clothing including a black one piece snow suit. As he walked toward the base of the mountain and saw all the colorful ski suits, he knew he was in trouble! But, he hung in there and skis with all the right clothing, now! Kirk loves to ski and someday plans to make 4-5 trips each winter.

Assistant Treasurer, Vickie Young

My husband (John Williams) and I have currently have a family membership in MSKC, but I have been a member since 1988 and have served in several capacities, including President, trip leader, and my current position of Assistant Treasurer. My hobbies include skiing, of course, traveling, scrap booking, desktop publishing, photography, aerobic walking and Golf (actually I’m trying to get back into Golf this year). I enjoy working within my community and my membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Links, Incorporated and my Church affords me many opportunities to do so. One of my favorite activities is getting together with family and friends and having a great time. My membership with MSKC and the NBS has allowed me to meet many wonderful people whom I enjoy spending time with. Professionally, I am Manager of Legal Administration for Hallmark Cards, Incorporated, where I have worked for the last 35 years. I am a member of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), a National organization, and the Kansas City Association of Legal Administrators (KCALA).
