Learning-To-Ski With
MSKC At Snow Creek

The LEARN-TO-SKI event at Snow Creek proved to be a lot of fun again this year. We had a total of 16 individuals who wanted to experience fun in the snow on Saturday February 9, 2008 at Snow Creek Ski Resort in Weston, Missouri. Everyone arrived approximately 9:00 am except the tubers who arrived at 10:00 am. Seven of the nine youths were boys from the Higher Impact organization with adult leaders Tyrone Flowers and Dan White. We also had four adult skiers. And not to be outdone, there were three youth tubers.

This year we were fortune to have great volunteers to help the newbie's fine tune their skiing techniques after the beginner lesson. Donna Sanders and Charles Williams displayed great patience, provided personal guidance and gave a lot of encouragement to our youth throughout the day. This year our club members wanted to make sure that the youth were properly dressed for the weather. Shirley Thaw and Vickie Young provided gently used gloves, sweaters, turtle necks and other warm waring apparel. Robert Brady, club president, provided each participant with a brand new colorful (red, yellow or white) ski hat with MSKC embroidered on the front. Joan Carter, our web site designer came to take pictures for our photo gallery.

Plans are currently underway to increase the number of both youth and adult participants and possibly days of skiing. Our club is passionate about spreading the word to the African American population about the wonderful outdoor sport of skiing.

So, we are looking with great enthusiasm to seeing a bigger crowd in 2009!!!
